Throw the Ultimate Pawty with DIY Pet Party Hats!
Is it your pet’s birthday, or do you just love spoiling your furry (or furless) friend? Either way, nothing says “celebration” like a party hat! Whether it’s for a dog, cat, or even yourself (yes, humans can join the fun too), these easy-to-make DIY party hats are perfect for creating unforgettable moments.
With a little cardboard, some crafty flair, and my free downloadable template, you can design custom hats that fit pets big and small—and even match their human companions. Add fabric, pom-poms, ribbons, or sparkles to make your hat one-of-a-kind. It’s time to grab your scissors and glue and let the party crafting begin!

Materials Needed:
- Free hat template (printed and cut out)
- Cardboard or foam sheet
- Fabric (optional, for a decorated finish)
- Glue (hot glue or craft glue)
- Scissors
- Hole punch (optional)
- Elastic cord or ribbon (for securing the hat)
- Decorations: pom-poms, ribbons, stickers, glitter, etc. (optional)

Let’s get making!!
1. Print & Prepare the Template
- Print out the party hat template and cut it out along the lines.
- Trace the template onto your cardboard or foam sheet and cut out the shape.
2. (Optional) Add Fabric
- If you’d like a fabric-covered hat:
- Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than your hat shape.
- With the fabric pretty side facing down, place the cardboard template on top.
- Apply glue to the edges of the cardboard or foam. It’s best to work one side at a time.
- Fold the fabric over the glued surface, pulling tight to make sure there are no wrinkles.
3. Form the Cone Shape
- Roll the cut-out shape into a cone, aligning the edges as marked on the template.
- Glue the overlapping edges together securely.
- Wait for this to dry.
4. Decorate Your Hat
- Add your choice of decorations! For example:
- Use stickers, glitter, paint or fabric trims to customise the design.
5. (Optional) Make a Pom-Pom
- Take a length of yarn and wrap it around each side of the pom-pom maker 30-40 times.The more times you wrap the yarn, the thicker your pom-pom will be.
- Carefully cut down the groove of the pom-pom maker and use a separate piece of yarn around the centre of the disks.
- Separate and remove the pom-pom from the maker and give it a trim.
- Glue the pom pom to the top of the hat.

5. Add a Strap
- Option 1: Use a hole punch to create two small holes on opposite sides of the hat. Thread elastic cord through the holes, knotting the ends securely.
- Option 2: Attach ribbon straps by gluing one end of each ribbon to the inside edges of the hat.
6. Let It Dry
- Allow all glue and decorations to dry completely before use.
Tip: These hats are perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion to celebrate with your pet or loved ones. Get creative with your decorations to make them unique!
